Biffy Clyro, The Prodigy And The Darkness Announce New Studio Albums

The new Biffy Clyro album is a double LP and will consist of two records, one titled ‘The Land At The End Of Our Toes’ and another titled ‘The Sand At The Core Of Our Bones’. It is due for release later this summer and is the follow-up to their 2009 album ‘Only Revolutions’.

Speaking about the album, drummer Ben Johnston said: “We don’t want to pigeon hole it as a ‘big rock album’, so we’re trying to make a diverse collection of songs.”

Biffy Clyro will debut tracks from ‘The Land At The End Of Our Toes’ and ‘The Sand At The Core Of Our Bones’ at a series of summer festivals, including Download and Rockness.

The Prodigy have revealed the working title for their new studio album. The record, which is the follow-up to their 2009 effort ‘Invaders Must Die’, has been given the working title ‘How To Steal A Jet Fighter’. Speaking about the new album, Liam Howlett promised that the band’s sixth studio LP would be “heavier and darker”.

Howlett said: “We’re really excited about it. The last record was kind of a party album, I guess. We were all happy to be back together again. But the best tunes of that album are the ones that have less of that. It’s definitely going to be heavier, darker.”

The Prodigy are expected to debut new songs during their headline slot at this summer’s Download Festival. They will top the bill at the event along with Metallica and Black Sabbath.

The Darkness have announced that their third studio album will be titled ‘Hot Cakes’ and will be released on 20th August.

The band reunited in 2011 after originally parting company in 2006 and performed a comeback slot at last year’s Download Festival. The album will be their first since 2005′s ‘One Way Ticket To Hell And Back’ and is set to feature a track titled ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us’. It has been produced by singer and guitarist Justin and Dan Hawkins along with long-time collaborator Nick Brine. The album’s tracklisting is yet to be confirmed.

Speaking about the album, Justin Hawkins revealed that the record’s first single will be titled ‘Every Inch Of You’ and that half of the album will be “really old school AC/DC guitar rock”. He also said that the album will feature some “extreme metal”. He said:

“The first single is going to be ‘Every Inch Of You’. Half of the record is really old school AC/DC guitar rock and some of it’s a bit more luxurious and layered, a bit like the first album. But there is also some more extreme metal on it. It’s a classic The Darkness album really. We always did take that approach but on the last record we just carried on adding more and more stuff to everything. Nobody stopped us and we just got carried away I think.”

Introducing…Ren Harvieu

Salford born Ren (short for Lauren) Harvieu was 12 years old when she made her live debut in a school talent contest. Years later, she was ‘discovered’ by her manager after uploading some demos to her myspace page.

Even though she has been compared to Lana Del Ray, Amy Winehouse, Adele and even Dusty Springfield, she’s very much a unique artist with her own distinctive, subtle sound. Her music is a potent mix of classic soul, country and pop. Some have labelled it ‘retro’, but only in a good way in so far as Ren recognises her influences and musical heritage. The quality of her songs and her ethereal but powerful voice combine to make Ren an artist for both today and the future.

Her album “Through The Night” is released on 7th May and you can catch her live at Camp Bestival and Bestival later this year. Check out the album’s title track which is also Ren’s debut single:

Introducing…To Kill A King

Our band of the month for February is the rather marvellous and hotly tipped To Kill A King. Similar in sounds to The National, Mystery Jets and Mumford & Sons, the London based band were formed back in 2009 by University of Leeds students (at the time) Ralph Pelleymounter (the soulful voiced frontman), Ian Dudfield and Josh Platman. The trio initially operated under the name Kid iD but with the enhancement of the band with newcomers Jonathan Willoughby and Ben Jackson they commenced a fresh start, renaming the band To Kill A King. (A pretty good name if you ask me - inspired by the British film of the same name which explores the English Civil War.)

Check them out for yourselves…

Here’s a great cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Maps”

And their debut single ‘Fictional State’ (released on Communion last year - Communion was co-founded by Ben Lovett, a member of the hugely successful Britfolk outfit Mumford & Sons.)

ENJOY!

Dispatches – Channel 4

If you watched Channel 4′s Dispatches (‘The Great Ticket Scandal’) on 23 Feb 2012, you will have seen how one of our competitors in the secondary ticketing market is misleading it’s customers by conspiring with concert promoters to artificially inflate ticket prices. The programme also highlighted the fact that the staff of this particular ticket exchange purchase thousands of concert tickets, which they then subsequently resell on their own exchange under the pretense that they have been listed by ordinary consumers.

In response to yesterday’s programme on Channel 4, we want to assure our own customers of the following:

1. We have never allowed, and will never allow concert promoters to use our service to sell their own tickets at prices which exceed their face-value.

2. We never purchase concert tickets and then re-list them for sale on our site.

3. None of our sellers have links to the promoters of the concerts for which they are selling tickets, the venues where the concerts are taking place or the artists themselves.

4. All of the tickets listed for sale at ticketola have been legitimately purchased by individuals who do not wish to attend the events for which they’ve purchased tickets.

In our opinion, the dishonest business practices employed by at least one major ticket exchange have no place in this market, and should be condemned and outlawed by both the live music and ticketing industries. The managers and agents who represent the artists need to establish a code of practice that all concert promoters adhere to, and which prevents promoters from colluding with ticket exchanges in regard to the artificial inflation of ticket prices. And the management of certain ticket exchanges need to urgently review their business processes so that their customers are no longer duped into purchasing tickets that are actually owned by, and under the control of concert promoters or the ticket exchanges themselves.

The concept of fans selling tickets to, and buying tickets from each other is a good thing for consumers. But the exploitation of this concept by unscrupulous concert promoters and ticket exchange operators is anti-consumer, and we should applaud Channel 4 for exposing it.
